Whatever the opposite of “handy” is, that’s us 🙈
To be fair, we have many skills.
Household DIY projects (unless you count assembling Target furniture as a “project”) is not on that list.
In the past, whenever we’ve tried to DIY/Pinterest something…
⏳ It always took three times longer than we expected
😬 We usually broke something (or it looked worse than before)
💸 And we had to hire someone to fix it
You know those cool Instagram Dads (God bless ’em!) who will build a theme park in their backyard for their five-year-old’s birthday party on their lunch break?
We’re whatever the opposite of that is.
We’re more like… but how do I just hang this one picture frame on the wall?
So THAT is why we’re so proud to say we took on a DIY home project together (hanging wallpaper!) and lived to tell the tale.
Thankfully, we found a peel and stick wallpaper company online that even WE could DIY! 💃
That doesn’t mean we weren’t daunted when we started.
For us, this was like building a house 🤣
Remember, those Instagram dads who can construct built-in bunkbeds somehow shaped like an old fashioned ice cream shop with a hidden trap door that reveals a slide to a playroom?
They might laugh about this…
But putting up wallpaper on ONE wall was our Mount Everest.
Thankfully it only took 90 minutes and we feel really proud of it! 💪
What do you think?! How’d we do?!
Here’s a little video of the final product!
We also watched a bangin’ documentary this week (after the kids went to sleep each night) that had our hearts racing from the moment we hit play.
So if you’re looking for something good to watch this weekend, it’s called American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden.
We were freshman in high school when 9/11 happened, and Jordan is a political junkie and history buff (any fellow West Wing fans out there?), so we already knew a lot of the story (and how it ended)…
And. It. Was. Still. Riveting.
We were on the edge of our seats all three nights.
Yes, it took us three nights because we have small children and sleep is precious to us in this season of life and basically our grandparents were on to something with eating dinner at 4:30 and going to bed at 9:00 😂
We learned so much, but the thing that REALLY stood out to us was this:
The Navy SEALs built a replica of the compound where Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan and rehearsed their mission over ONE HUNDRED TIMES 🤯
All that practice. All that training. All those reps.
That nobody saw.
It was a good reminder for us that if we want to be successful in any “mission” in life (photography, business, raising kids, our marriage, etc.), it will require hundreds, if not thousands, of quiet reps behind closed doors that no one else will ever see.
But it’s worth it.
Our craft is worth it.
Our marriage is worth it.
Our kids are worth it.
Our business is worth it.
And so are yours.
So if you needed a little kick in the pants from the Navy SEALs to double-down on the quiet, unglamorous, but necessary work you need to do this week, awesome!
We did too! 😝
Or if you just want something that will keep you glued to the tv,
here’ a link to the trailer if you wanna peek before you commit! 🍿
Speaking of watching TV on our laptop in bed…
This week, we rekindled our love for the Ninja Creami🍦
Do you have one of these?!
It will legit change your life.
In our 20s, we used to eat ice cream every night while we watched possibly the greatest TV show of all time that never won an Emmy (and that’s a total travesty): Gilmore Girls.
But… in our early 30s… after we had our first baby (Beckett)… our Usain Bolt metabolisms… ahem… slowed.
And we realized we needed to make a change.
Enter Ninja Creami.
Maybe our most beloved kitchen appliance because we can MAKE OUR OWN ICE CREAM.
We found some really EASY high protein, low calorie, zero sugar recipes online that taste SO GOOD –– we actually prefer them now to regular ice cream (gasp!) and we can eat an ENTIRE PINT EACH.
Without any guilt.
Because it’s good for us!
BTW… if you have a favorite (healthy) Ninja Creami recipe, please send it over!
Jordan’s current go-to is…
🥛 1 cup of Fairlife skim milk (80 cals)
🍫 1 scoop dark chocolate protein powder from Transparent Labs (140 cals)
🐮 4 tbsp chocolate collagen peptides from Vital Proteins (90 cals)
🍒 1 cup of frozen cherries
Blend it up, pour into a container (lid off!) and let it freeze for 24 hours. Then, we’re you’re ready to enjoy, just run the outside under hot water for one minute, spin on the “Light Ice Cream” mode and enjoy!
59 grams of protein
ONLY 400 calories in one pint!
Amazing, right?!?!?! 🙌
If you don’t like cherries (Amy doesn’t), you can try her current go-to recipe!
🥛 1 cup of Fairlife whole milk (150 cals)
🍫 1 scoop dark chocolate protein powder from Transparent Labs (140 cals)
🐮 4 tbsp chocolate collagen peptides from Vital Proteins (90 cals)
59 grams of protein
ONLY 380 calories!
So as we head into the weekend, you can bet we’ll be over here eating our homemade protein ice cream, admiring our DIY home project and wondering WHO THE HECK ARE WE?
We hope your weekend will be just as satisfying 👌
