You know those movies, the ones where, if you’re flipping through the TV channels and they’re on, you just have to stop and watch –– even through the commercial breaks? We probably wouldn’t ever choose to plan our entire Sunday afternoon around one of these movies, or have a “movie night” and watch one of them, but they’re such classics, that when they’re on… you just… watch. For us, a few come to mind: The Shawshank Redemption, The American President, A League of Their Own, The Notebook AND The Parent Trap: Lindsay Lohan edition.
We like it SO much that when we went to Napa a few years ago for a (much-needed, post-baby) wine-tasting weekend with our best friends, we found “the Parent Trap house” (where Nick Parker and Chessy live) and –– this may be slightly embarrassing –– DROVE TO SEE IT. We were in the middle of Napa Valley, our first time in wine country, and instead of being focused on the wine, we were driving around trying to find the real-life home of some of our favorite fictional characters. We also went to see Downtown Abbey on our anniversary trip to Europe, so we’re not exactly first-time offenders!
Deep down, we think the reason we both gravitated to The Parent Trap as children (and still do as adults), aside from the innocent, light-hearted, all-in-good-fun humor –– so many scenes come to mind –– is the deeper, sweeter, more serious story line… and that’s redemption and second chances, something we love about Brent and Colette’s story. Brent and Collette’s daughters were friends, and a few years ago, after picking the girls up from hanging out together (not at camp!) they met for the first time. Now, they’re getting married –– and no one has to choose between London and Napa! (Parent Trap joke)
Brent and Colette, we had so much fun at your engagement session and can’t wait until your wedding this March! You two are beautiful inside and out, and we hope you love seeing yourselves (and your love) through our lenses as much as we loved capturing it. God bless you both!
