We’re so excited to share this spontaneous Flagstaff engagement mini-session in the wildflowers with you today! If you’re looking at this cute couple and thinking “Hmmm… They look familiar…” that’s because you’ve already seen them on our blog! Mel and Ryan getting married next spring (Mel is on our team and we couldn’t live without her!) and we already photographed their real engagement session in the desert several months ago. We hadn’t originally planned on doing anymore photos of them before their wedding, but we’re so glad they were up for one of the most spur of the moment sessions we’ve ever done!
We were up north in the woods of Flagstaff, Arizona (which is about two hours north of Phoenix) for a team retreat, and while we were there, we got a message from a sweet childhood friend who lives in the area who wanted to tip us off to this gorgeous wildflower location. She said the flowers only bloom for a week or two all year, so she encouraged us to go right away before the flowers died. Once she sent us a photo of the spot and we saw how gorgeous it was, we looked at Mel and Ryan and said “How about a second set of engagement photos?!” Ryan hadn’t even packed a single pair pants for the trip (only basketball shorts haha we like to keep things causal around here!) so we grabbed a pair of Jordan’s pants for Ryan, Mel found this cute blue dress in her suitcase and BAM! We were off to find the field!
As soon as we pulled up and saw this magical field of wildflowers, we were so glad we made the last minute decision to do it. It was so fun to shoot just for the sake of shooting! We don’t get to do that very much anymore, and we really enjoyed getting to shoot somewhere different. As you can probably tell from the photos, we were at risk for a big storm the whole time we were shooting, so we’re so glad the rain held off until we finished! Everything seemed to perfectly align to make this happen, and we just love how the photos turned out! We hope you enjoy looking at them half as much as we did shooting them!
