We can’t believe we already have a three month old! Slow down, time, you’re going too fast! We’re excited to share another Demos Family Update with you! These monthly posts have two purposes. First, in the midst of a sleep-deprived parenting brain fog, these posts help us remember the little things that really make life good. The small moments that we don’t want to forget. (Also, it helps us hold ourselves accountable to organize our family photos on a regular basis — because Lord knows we need deadlines! — so our pictures don’t end up just piled up in a disorganized digital shoebox!) But mostly, we’re just grateful for the privilege of sharing our life with you. Whether you’ve been with us for years, or this is your first day, thank you for caring enough to check in! We hope our little corner of the internet is a place that feels like home.
Here’s what happened in our third month as Mom and Dad:
— Becks LAUGHED out loud for the very first time this month… AND WE CAUGHT IT ON VIDEO! We were both so stunned and SO delighted. Here’s a link to see the exact moment. Amy can’t decide if her favorite part is Beckett’s laugh or Jordan’s reaction to Beckett’s laugh.
— He officially grew out of his newborn clothes this month (HOW?!)
— Our son’s newest trick is howling like a coyote. It’s an “ahhh-oooh!” sound. When he does, we howl back. Hopefully that doesn’t mess him up. Headline: BOY RAISED BY HUMANS THINKS HE’S A WOLF. I mean, hey, as long a he’s a nice wolf right? 🙂
— We celebrated Amy’s very first Mother’s Day! Jordan wrote Amy an open letter that made her cry. Beckett gave her a snuggly afternoon nap in our bed that made her whole day.
— Speaking of sleeping, Becks started sleeping all the way through the night! Ten hours by ten weeks! We owe it ALL to the newborn sleep foundations class we took when we were still pregnant. We’ve been implementing everything we learned since his very first night and it’s really paying off now! Thank you Cara with Taking Cara Babies! We’re really getting to enjoy each day because we aren’t exhausted. We would be sleep-deprived zombies without you.
— You might be surprised to know that Becks and The Little Mermaid have a lot in common. He HATES nap time, and we’re convinced that, just like Ariel, he just wants to be where the people are.
— We had our first BIG date night since Becks was born and went to the Taylor Swift concert (fully dressed up like one of the “Old Taylors.”) Thankfully, Beckett is still a little too young to be embarrassed.
— In a more recent development, Becks L-O-V-E-S diaper changes (and being naked in general, because boy). His first month of life, he used to scream through them. He hated being naked. Now, he smiles at us the entire time, and so, weirdly, it’s actually become one of our favorite things to do.
— That hasn’t stopped him from completely protesting the bottle, though. Every time we try to feed him with it, he screams. He actually slaps it away. We didn’t even know this was possible. Say a prayer for our babysitters.
— Speaking of things normal babies like — that ours hates, like the car — Becks is slowly (ever so painfully slowly) coming around to the pacifier. He still gives the normal one the stink eye, but he’s warming (again, ever-so-slowly) to the WubbaNub. Praise God for people who manufacture things that calm fussy babies. You are true American heroes.
— Something he DOES love (thank you, Sweden, for this and Volvos) is his Baby Bjorn bouncer. Even though we’re partial to neutral baby things (evidence: our nursery) we cracked and got him a bright, primary-colored activity bar with shiny things that MESMERIZE him.
— Jordan’s favorite part is listening to Amy talk to Beckett about “his new friends.” Like they’re real. Do you LOVE your new friends? Do you love Mr. Bee? Are you best friends?”
— As far as real friends go, Becks got to meet his big cousins for the first time! Jordan’s older brother has three little ones: Olivia, Luke and Alexxa. Olivia was our first niece. We wrote this blog post four years ago on her third birthday. At the end, we wrote, “Don’t grow up too fast, okay? There will be plenty of time for that.” Sure enough, she’s growing up. Too fast. It was so sweet to see them together.
— As we were driving to Jordan’s parents house for dinner on Mother’s Day evening, Amy had just finished writing this Instagram post. As she read it out loud to Jordan, she started to cry in the front seat. “He won’t always fit in my arms,” she wept. Later that evening, alone in the kitchen, Jordan’s mom said to him,” Even though Beckett won’t always fit in Amy’s arms. One day, when he’s big enough, he’ll make the choice to hug her first — and that’ll be just as sweet.”
Here are our favorites from month three:
On the left is Amy’s phone wallpaper this month. On the right is Jordan’s. This probably says something about us.
Bath time: our new favorite time.
Becks is really a tummy time champ these days.
And makes us laugh daily with his facial expressions
Getting to be his mama is the best thing…
He’s still in the business of making our hearts melt, whether he’s awake or asleep.
Still sleeping through church! Thank goodness!
Even though he’s cute when he’s asleep, our favorite times of each day is wake time. Beckett Harry Demos is here to party.
The moment he laughed for this first time!! Feeling so luck we caught it on video!!
Beckett’s first pair of jeans!
This little guy is LOVED…
By everyone, except our cats. We’re working on it…
They’ll come around eventually right? Who couldn’t love this little face?
Regular things are just more exciting when he’s around.
His smile is our favorite, but he’s been nailing his “blue steel” look too.
THIS POSE.
Blue steel IN JEANS. We die. His parents dressed like TAYLOR SWIFT… HE DIES.
One day, he will be embarrassed of these.
Becks, thanks for making every day brighter. We love you more than you’ll ever know.
