It’s hard to believe we already have a two month old! We’re excited to share another Demos Family Update with you! These monthly posts have two purposes. First, in the midst of a sleep-deprived parenting brain fog, these posts help us remember the little things that really make life good. The small moments that we don’t want to forget. (Also, it helps us hold ourselves accountable to organize our family photos on a regular basis — because Lord knows we need deadlines! — so our pictures don’t end up just piled up in a disorganized digital shoebox!) But mostly, we’re just grateful for the privilege of sharing our life with you. Whether you’ve been with us for years, or this is your first day, thank you for caring enough to check in! We hope our little corner of the internet is a place that feels like home.

Here’s what happened in month two of our parenting journey:

— Becks started smiling! At us! VOLUNTARILY.

— Which is causing our first major (daily) (hourly) marital fight since he’s been born: who gets to wake him up from naps. Because he’s the SWEETEST riiight when he wakes up. Whoever gets him up from his nap gets the most heart-melting, gummy smiles.

— Then 5:00 p.m. hits… and neither of us claim him. Because it’s the start of the “Witching Hour.” When our sweet, beautiful son turns into a cross between a gremlin and pterodactyl.

— Suddenly, we both find ourselves referring to him as “Your son.”

— That’s also about the time when Amy wraps the cute little screaming monster up like a burrito (thank goodness for the Ollie swaddle) and speed walks around the kitchen island until he gives in and falls asleep.

— We’re already prepared for there to be a running-track pattern worn into our floors from all the brisk pacing we do during his witching hour.

— Beckett, if you’re reading this in the future, Mom and Dad have ALWAYS had, and will always have, more willpower than you. Save us all the trouble and accept that in advance. LOVE YOU!

— Month two was the first month we finally ventured out of the house with our little guy to somewhere other than the doctor’s office! We made successful runs to Target, Old Navy and HomeGoods for the first time, which might not *sound* adventurous to people without kids, but we’re still feeling on top of the world about it.

— We watched church online for the first six weeks, but decided there was no better time for Becks to make his debut than Easter Sunday. We went to the outdoor sunrise service because we were already awake.

— Add that to the list of things we never thought we’d say!

— It was one the most emotional services of our life, because now that we have a son, and we know how much we love him, it’s overwhelming to think that God loves us that much… and more.

— A few weeks later, we went back for our first regular indoor service. Becks got to meet our favorite greeters and sport his baby headphones for the first time. (Our church jams LOUD for Jesus, ya’ll.)

— He couldn’t get comfortable laying down with them on, so Amy held him the entire time. Partly, so he’d stay quiet, and partly because we love snuggling him close. According to our midwife, you can’t spoil a baby by holding him too much. We plan to keep putting that theory to the test!

— In positive sleep news, Becks is almost sleeping through the night. He’s eight weeks old, and has given us a few eight hour stretches! Thanks Taking Cara Babies!

— Which means we’re almost sleeping through the night, too. When we’re willing to fall asleep with him (and our grandparents) at 9:00 p.m.. Even though he’s sleeping seven or eight hours, his favorite time to wake up is still 4:00 a.m. (We’re working on it!)

— Speaking of hanging out with senior citizens, that brings us to one of the most momentous highlights of the month: our first official date night since Becks was born. We were running 15 minutes late dropping him at Amy’s parents’ house (we think we’ll be 15 minutes late for the rest of our life) so we called the restaurant to let them know were running and asked if they could hold our table. The hostess seemed confused that we called. Probably because we were the only people… with 5:15 p.m. reservation on a Friday night.

— We had so much fun on our dinner date that we didn’t care the sun wasn’t even down yet. We love our little guy, but our marriage is still our number one priority around here.

— Speaking of loving food, Becks is becoming a big fan. He’s locking down A LOT of calories during the day these days. All of which are contributing to his new chubby cheeks and potbelly. Amy calls them his little “milk cheeks” and proclaims once a day that it makes him “extra kissable.”

— We wish it was our job to eat as much as we want, gain weight and, with every extra pound, get told how much cuter we look. Youth really is wasted on the young.

— As a result, Becks doesn’t fit into his newborn clothes or diapers anymore. But he does (finally!) like being changed and hasn’t peed on us, the wall or his own FACE since his first few weeks.

— The hiccups, however, have NOT gone away. Poor guy! It’s like a dying frog lives in his throat.

— Our sweet friend, Caroline, flew in from Pennsylvania to meet Becks and spend the weekend with us. She spoiled us with home-cooked meals and “A Day in the Life” photo shoot that we can’t WAIT to share with you soon.

— But more than anything else, what we loved most, was sitting in our living room together, having everything from belly-busting conversations to deep, life-giving ones, and getting to watch one of our best friends love our son. We feel like we understand God in a whole new way, because loving Beckett is the new highway to our heart.

Here’s a few of our faves from month two!!

He’s not sure how he feels about bath time yet.

But we DID successfully adventure out of the house in month two!

First official date night!

He got his first introduction to HomeGoods…

And his very first restaurant (he wasn’t thrilled!)

Going out of the house is exhausting, guys.

That’s why we spent most of our time inside. Sleeping peacefully…

Or sometimes REFUSING TO SLEEP!

We can’t stay mad at him… He wears us out in the best kind of way.

Making his big church debut on Easter Sunday!

Spending time with friends who live far away…

And ones who are right around the corner!

He loved having his “Aunt Carol” come visit!

And his first indoor church service! He made it though the entire thing like a champ!

He makes all the little things fun…

Laundry day…

Dishes…

Work…

We grabbed a few portraits for his second month, and he decided to show off his newly acquired skills, like holding up his own head (a little!) and melting his mama’s heart with his smile…

We love him so much! Happy two months on the planet, Becks! We’re so happy you’re here!
