A few years ago, we visited our sweet friends, Justin and Mary Marantz, at their home in New Haven, Connecticut for our first real, authentic New England experience. Complete with a Yale football game, a visit to the town Gilmore Girls was based on and lots of good food (especially mashed potato pizza!) and better conversation. You can read all about it here. At the end of that visit, we told our hosts that Arizona was next! And, eight months later, they were able to come out for their very own Demos Desert Tour. We took two days. Completely. Off. A rarity for workaholics, like us. We laid by the pool for hours on end, went to an escape room for the first time (and had so much fun that we did it twice!) and a whole list of other Phoenix must-sees and dos.
We talked… until the world made sense again
[ezcol_1half]The part we loved the most, though, had nothing to do with where we went, what we ate or what we did. It was what was said. Over early-morning cups of coffee. During walks though the desert. While floating in the pool soaking up the sun and sitting on the couch swirling a glass of wine in our hands. Deep conversations. Light-hearted jokes. Everything in-between. “We talked about nothing. We talked about everything. We talked… until the world made sense again.” as we’ve heard Mary say. And if we had to summarize our time with them in the desert, that’s what we’d say, too. [/ezcol_1half][ezcol_1half_end]Something we’ve always admired about Justin and Mary (and still do) is the indelible mark they’ve left on our industry in many ways, but this one especially: why we do what we do. The importance and significance of being a wedding photographer. Taking moments and memories that time would otherwise steal and saying, “Stop. This one stays. That one, too.” Because love matters, they always remind us. From the biggest milestones to “the tiny little ordinary nothings that make up a couple’s life together.” It all matters. Because it’s all part of the story.[/ezcol_1half_end]
So, we figured the best way for us say “thank you” to them for always reminding us to shoot for silver frames, for grandchildren, for legacy, for love, was to freeze this moment of their story. With a little mini-shoot in the desert. And say four powerful words they express so well: Stop. This one stays.
