Imagine looking back at your second grade class photo and seeing your future husband staring back at you. The boy you adventured with in childhood. The one whose family lived in a house so close to yours that you shared a wooded backyard. The place where you used to let your imagination run wild while building forts and getting lost in your own make-believe land. Where you’d go sledding together on snow days and play until the sun went down. It sounds like a love story straight out of a movie. Almost too good to be true, right?
THAT is Caroline and Kevin’s story.
Kevin asked Caroline to be his girlfriend. On the school bus. IN SECOND GRADE!
Sweet seven-year-old Caroline didn’t waste time answering…
“No way.”
Kevin spent of the rest of the bus ride feeling crushed, but recovered by recess.
They went back to being best friends.
They spent the rest of their childhood building forts together in the woods that separated their backyards. Sledding on snow days, playing together in a land of make-believe, celebrating birthdays and taking family vacations together. Even when his family moved across the country in 7th grade, they continued to be best friends. Their families traveled together. They continued to grow up exploring the world together. Their whole relationship was one of adventures.
Finally, two years after they graduated college, he asked her that same question from second grade one more time.
Spoiler alert: this time, she didn’t say no 🙂
Marrying your best friend. What could be better? When we were in high school, Jordan wrote a note to Amy that said that love is friendship set on fire. And that’s exactly what happened for Caroline and Kevin. When they walk down the aisle in March, it will mark 20 years of friendship. Twenty years since she answered him on the school bus. But, this time, in front of their family and friends, standing at the altar together, she’ll give her most important “yes.”
When Kevin proposed, he brought with him the adventure book that they had been keeping through their years of friendship and dating. The book that held all of their treasured memories, just like Ellie & Carl in one of our favorite Disney movies, Up. It was way too much fun for us to capture their sweet Up themed engagement session in the desert filled with colorful balloons, a Carl & Ellie-esqe picnic, and their very own adventure book.
Caroline and Kevin, thank you for letting us capture 20 years of friendship set on fire. We can’t wait to top it off with your Four Seasons Scottsdale wedding in March! Here are just a few of our many favorites!
