We’ve been giving ourselves permission this summer to stop being the world’s most demanding bosses. And if we’re being honest, we’re pretty tough bosses. In fact, we place impossible expectations on ourselves.
So we’ve needed to remind ourselves this summer that the reason we worked so hard to make this dream a reality was not to make a LIVING but a LIFE, and we’ve been working on giving ourselves a lot more grace.
You’ve probably noticed that we’ve been taking some time off from blogging, which is why it’s been so quiet around here. Not only that, we haven’t posted on Instagram in five days (which is more like five lightyears in Creative World!) and you know what? Our business didn’t blow up! Everything is so good. So good.
We’ve been spending every evening working out, floating in the pool, having dinner together, snuggling on the couch, watching Netflix and reading. We filled our weekend with friends, family and church. And when we wake up, we’re not opening up social media first anymore. We’re praying, we’re reading (we’re even drinking an entire bottle of water before our coffee!) and starting the day feeling GRATEFUL instead of feeling BEHIND.
We’ve committed to working only eight hour every day, and while that might not seem like a big accomplishment to most people, to us, it’s been revolutionary. Eight intentional, focused, well-thought-out hours. Then we close our laptops, turn off our phones and live. our. life.
The best part? Our business is doing better than ever before. We’re actually making more money living a more balanced life.
It’s a funny thing. When our priorities are where they should be, everything else just flows. We’re happier. Healthier. And so grateful.
So if you’re also your own toughest boss too, give yourself some much needed grace this morning. Maybe even let one thing go today. Let’s commit to not just making a living, but making a real, good, fulfilling life together.
