Welp, word is out! If you’re following along on Instagram (@amy_demos and @jordan_demos) then you already know that we’ve officially retired our beloved barn stool. If you’re new around here, and are wondering why on earth we have a barn stool, you probably aren’t alone!
You see, over time, we discovered that Amy was (and still is!) significantly shorter than a lot of our clients, which meant Amy was spending a lot of her time on her tip-toes (thank goodness for all those years of ballet). We prefer to shoot portraits at eye-level or even slightly down on our clients because, in our opinion, it’s the most flattering angle on all faces and helps us create the prettiest images. Anyone who has taken a selfie with their phone positioned below their eyes will understand Amy’s quest for the right angle! Can we get an amen? So when her tip-toes weren’t enough to give her the height she wanted, you could often find her climbing atop chairs, rocks, walls or anything else nearby that would give her the height she needed.
On one of these jobs, we happened to be shooting just feet away from our one of our client’s barns, and there, in all it’s glory, we spotted the barn stool, just waiting to be used. We asked to use it for the remainder of the session, and at the end of the session, our client offered to give it to us. “We were going to throw it out anyway!” they explained. We all laughed. Then took them up on it. And the rest is history! We’ve been trekking around our beloved barn stool all over the valley, from engagement sessions to styled shoots to weddings for over a year now, and every time, our stool collects just a little more dust from each session. We always joked that our barn stool wasn’t dirty, it was organic.
We probably would’ve gone right on using our barn stool forever, purely for sentimental reasons, but the reality was it was bulky, awkward to carry, and hard to fit in the trunk of our car! So we thought it was fitting to go out with a bang and use our barn stool for the last time at… wait for it… a barn wedding! Krystie & Adam’s beautiful barn wedding was the perfect grand finale for a stool that has gone thought so much with us, and now, we’re happy to introduce our newest addition: the chrome! Oooh! The CROME! Our new stool is lightweight, collapsible and easy to carry, and after field testing it at our double header wedding weekend, we’re ready to say it’s here to stay! Since posting a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, we got tons of comments, messages and even a few emails about the new stool, so for anyone else looking for one of your own, you can find it here!
Also, if you want to see the stool in action (and learn from us in-person during two jam-packed days as we open up our playbook and help you build real momentum in your business) we have TWO seats left to our March 30 and 31 workshop, right here in our hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona! This will be the last workshop we host in Arizona until the fall, so this is your chance to make it happen! If you want to hear what past attendees are saying about the workshop, you can see that here. Shoot us an email to snag a spot! We can’t wait to see you there!
