Sometimes, in life, you meet people so genuinely kind that it catches you off guard. Not because you’re surprised that such kindness exists; but because, in the moment, you think, If everyone was like them, what a more beautiful world it would be. That’s how we felt the first time we talked with Grace and Ryan –– and it wasn’t even in person! They were cuddling on their couch in the small San Francisco apartment, holding on to each other like they were holding the whole world. And they were. They were holding their whole world.
Ryan is from the Bay Area and loves all things San Francisco sports. We can’t confirm it, but we’re pretty sure when Ryan bleeds, it’s red, and also 49er gold. Grace’s family is from China, and, as such, she explained that it’s traditional for the bride to wear a red dress on her wedding day. Since she already found a dress she loves (and it’s white) she told us she wanted to incorporate a red dress into her engagement session. We loved that idea! It’s so special how she paid homage to her roots. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that 49er red (by default) is one of Ryan’s favorite colors 🙂
Since we talked earlier this spring, Grace and Ryan made the move from San Francisco to Phoenix, which is why we delayed their engagement session until now. People who are accustomed to weather in the mid-fifties and overcast shouldn’t attempt standing outside for two hours in the Arizona summer sun and scorching heat until they’ve had some time to acclimate! Haha.
Fun fact: Grace and Ryan actually moved into the exact neighborhood we grew up in as kids, just across the street from our high school! We talk A LOT about those days in this episode of the podcast.
Grace and Ryan, goodness, you guys. We had the best time together at your engagement session. You two are as beautiful on the outside as you are kind on the inside; and that’s saying a lot, because we don’t think it’s possible that you could be any nicer. We hope you love seeing yourselves and your love through our lens as much as we loved photographing it. We can’t wait for your Four Seasons wedding this spring! Welcome to the desert, you two. Our warm sun fits well with your warm souls.
