Back when we were dating in college, one of our favorite songs was “Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney.
There’s a line that always stood out to us:
‘Cause when your hourglass runs out of sandYou can’t flip it over and start again
And whew 😭 Especially now as parents? That one hits.
Particularly when it comes to our kids, we’ve been feeling an ache in our hearts…
It’s all going too fast.
So what do we do with that feeling?
We can’t stop time (trust us, we’ve tried 😂)…
But we can decide to make the most of the time we do have.
One of the best pieces of parenting advice we ever got was from an incredible mom of eight grown kids. (Yes, EIGHT!)
She told us: “Leave it all on the field.”
We loved that and haven’t forgotten it.
And even though most days we wake up feeling like we got hit by a bus, we’ve been trying to remind ourselves…
These are the good ol’ days 🥹
And we’re gonna want them back.
So even though Jordan is not exactly Mr. Outdoors (camping in the wilderness is… not his vibe 😅), he took Beckett to a father-son weekend retreat.
The ropes course was paradoxically the most terrifying thing they did and *also* somehow the highlight!
Becks has never slept in a cabin with other boys and dads before, and we wanted to give him that experience –– without Jordan having to sleep more than one night.. in a cabin… with other boys and dads 😂
That first night, Jordan said he heard giggling above him, looked up… and saw this moment:
It’s how he wants to remember him forever 🥹
While the boys were away, the girls played.
We declared it “Girls Weekend” 🎀
I threw on a tank top and sneakers, planning to hit the park…
But Emily (our five-year-old live-in Disney princess) clasped her hands together and said in her sweet sing-songy voice:
“Oh Mommy! Can we pleeeease wear pink dresses instead?! And our sparkly pink bows?! It’s Girls Day!”
So naturally, we we ended up WAY overdressed for the playground 🤣
Equally overdressed for:
📚 The library
📖 Our book “picnic” on the grass
🍩 And the girls’ favorite part: donuts (with rainbow sprinkles, obviously)
And it was perfect.
As much as we love our weekends together, the real gift?
Not saying goodbye to them on Monday.
It’s cozy, unhurried mornings homeschooling on the back porch (fueled by homemade honey lattes ☕ and great children’s literature 📚)
It’s having the ability to travel, create memories together and never have to worry about “sick days.”
This life we’re living now?
We never could’ve imagined it.
But we also never would’ve had it… if we hadn’t picked up a camera.
(And we knew nothing about photography when we started.)
We share all this because it’s not just our story.
Thousands of our students have taken the leap — and completely changed their lives through photography, too.
If you haven’t seen Priscilla’s story yet, you have to watch this 60-second clip 👇🥹
Did you catch what Priscilla said there? 👆
“To anyone hesitating, this could be YOUR story too. The world is big enough for another photographer! Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not!”
So if you feel stuck…
Or like you need a shift…
If something needs to change…
If you’re ready to do something you love, get paid for it, and live a life you actually want to live…
Who knows?
This might be the moment you reclaim everything.
The one where you take back control from the hourglass and start deciding where your sand is going –– instead of the sand deciding for you.
