Tragedy struck the Demos household this week.
Costco.
Stopped.
Carrying.
Our Greek yogurt.
The Greek yogurt.
The one we’ve been eating for lunch. Every day. FOR YEARS.
This is the very last precious container of Kirkland Signature Organic Plain Non-Fat Greek Yogurt in our possession— and we’ve been rationing like the gruel in Oliver Twist.
Because we’re weird. And the ultimate creatures of habit. And we actually eat the same thing all day… err day.
But, hey, don’t knock it ’til you try it.
You know how Steve Jobs wore the same turtleneck every day?
We eat the same yogurt.
And while it might sound a little crazy, hear us out!
It makes grocery shopping way easier, significantly reduces food waste and removes one more decision from our already full plates (pun fully intended).
Our go-to?
🍨 Greek yogurt + 🫐 frozen blueberries + 🍯 honey is unbeatable
It’s easy, high in protein, and (miraculously) we still look forward to it after all these years.
Okay, back to Costco…
Jordan FaceTimed Amy (who was in the middle of Beckett’s bedtime routine) from the refrigerated aisle—disbelief written all over his face.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing?
Like some sort of stealth dairy secret agent, hoping our beloved Kirkland Signature tubs were just playing hide-and-seek behind the wooden pallets…
Jordan CLIMBED ALLLLL THE WAY IN to the freezer section.
He inspected every plastic-wrapped pallet in the warehouse.
(Jordan’s also been known to pallet-dive for the best strawberries in produce, so Costco probably has him on a corporate watch list by now.)
It looked something like this…
Maybe there are more in there.
Maybe this is all just a mistake.
It wasn’t.
You could practically hear the bagpipes playing our death march.
This was the end of us.
We would never recover.
Here lie Amy & Jordan, who died of heartache.
After a moment of silent grief, Jordan did the most “Jordan” thing.
Have you ever heard this quote?
The way you do one thing is the way you do everything?
That’s. Jordan. To. A. TEE.
He’s built for optimization. This man organizes our spice cabinet like he’s prepping for a Navy SEAL inspection.
Jordan Demos truly doesn’t know how to do anything half way.
When he tells Amy he wants to “tidy up” or “optimize” something around the house…
(Usually one single drawer that’s mildly messy)
He approaches it like this.
So mid-crisis, he came up with a plan.
He checked out, drove straight to Publix and didn’t just buy one tub of yogurt there.
No.
He bought every single brand of nonfat Greek yogurt in the store.
Because if Kirkland was gone, he was going to find its rightful successor. Even if it took a blind taste-test bracket with March Madness-level intensity.
Amy came downstairs just as he walked through the door— arms full, eyes wild, ready to explain his evaluation rubric like a sommelier describing tannins.
Price per ounce. Protein content. Triple strained. Organic. Level of creaminess.
It all mattered.
Amy whipped out her phone to document the moment and hastily posted it on Instagram.
Jordan was mid-game-plan explanation, detailing how we need to taste test them ALL in an effort to replace the undefeated reigning G.O. A. T. = Kirkland Signature 🐐
The forever reigning champion of our hearts because:
📈 It’s twice as big
💸 For half the price
😋 And tastes the best
So when Amy posted, she asked for help.
That’s when the Internet does…
…what the Internet does best.
Y’all came riding in like white knight and SHOWED UP.
Amy’s DMs got FLOODED.
(We’ve honestly never seen anything like it)
😭 With condolences
(From fellow Greek yogurt aficionados)
🍨 AND TONS OF SUGGESTIONS for other Greek yogurt brands we should try that weren’t at Publix.
We’ve never felt so cared for in our hour of darkness.
BTW, there were *a lot* of votes for “Icelandic” yogurt… which we’d never even HEARD of… but apparently has even more protein than Greek yogurt?!
Jordan didn’t want to hear that.
Mention he’s Greek and he’s like…
So this weekend, we’re planning to go back to the store to pick up a few more brands, Greek and Icelandic, until we crown a new champion 🏆
So far, the scoreboard:
❌ Publix: Generic for a reason
✅ Chobani: Understandably popular
✅ Stonyfield: Best replacement so far
🇮🇸 Icelandic: Taste test pending
🥶 Jordan: Still emotionally recovering
And here’s where photography (and life) come in.
Believe it or not, we were actually reminded of something important in this whole ridiculous yogurt saga.
We can all wish things would stay the same forever… or we can adapt and grow.
After 15+ years in small business, we’ve learned that embracing change is the only way to survive.
Every time the industry shifts.
The algorithm changes.
The technology advances.
And real life throws yet another curveball…
We have a choice:
Sit in frustration. Mourn the way things used to be.
Or get curious.
Try new things.
Experiment.
Stay open.
Get scrappy.
Keep growing.
(And just as importantly… keep going.)
We don’t get to be in control of everything that happens to us.
But we DO get to control how we respond.
So whether you’re dealing with a slow season, a big life change or you’re stepping into something unknown… know that you’re not alone.
We’re out here with spoons in hand too, cheering you on saying let’s keep going (and growing) together.
