This week has been such a mix of sweet reflections, small wins (and a little classic chaos!)
Here are five things weβre loving, learning and laughing about right now π
1. Our Big “Move-iversary” π€
We can hardly believe this past month marks four years since we moved from Phoenix to Nashville, which means all three of our kids have officially lived in Tennessee longer than Arizona now π΅π₯Ή
This entire season has been equal parts sweet and… stretching.
If youβve ever moved across the country (especially with tiny humans) you know… itβs a whole thing π
It was SUCH a big decision to leave everything we knew (everything that felt safe and comfortable) but we were really feeling called to it.
There were SO many unexpected challenges we never would’ve seen coming, but the one that kinda sums it all up…
Our one and only car caught fire just hours into the move π³
We’re so grateful that everyone was safe (you can read more of the details on that here) and that all we lost was a thing.
But if you can believe it, our car going up in flames was just the beginning of a long list of trials we faced throughout our transition π
Here’s the thing though…
Even with all the hard, we wouldnβt trade it.
Tennessee really feels like home now in all the best ways.
Every family walk to the neighborβs farmβ¦
Each time we watch the kids run barefoot through the wide-open grass, climb trees, swing from the rope swing or call the horses by nameβ¦
Our family has grown so much here β and not just because the kids have gotten bigger π
If you’re in a season where you’re feeling called to step outside the norm, or leave something behind in your life that feels safe and comfortable, we’ll remind you of something that our mentor shared with us during our move:
Nobody grows inside their comfort zone.
Weβre so thankful for the fruit thatβs come from going where we felt called π
2. How I sneak in 5 miles a day (while working!) π
Between homeschooling our kids and running our business, there was a time when hitting 10,000 steps a day felt impossible π
We know any photographer who is used to working at a screen a lot during the week can probably relate!
So last year, I got a walking pad for my Ikea standing desk and it’s been a GAME CHANGER! π
I set the speed at about 2 MPH while I’m working and, even with alternating between sitting and walking, now I’m regularly logging five miles most days without even realizing it! π€―
I’ve found it actually helps me stay focused, motivated, and I can totally still edit well and efficiently while I’m walking!
So if youβre trying to move more without overhauling your entire routine, highly recommend this hack. So easy. So doable. And feels so good!
3. Saying goodbye + the book we give again and again π
Can you believe graduation season is already here?!
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our beloved date night babysitter β sheβs graduating and moving back to California π’
Sheβs been with us since Ellie was a newborn, so it felt like the end of an era, and if you’ve ever had a great sitter, you know how hard it is to say goodbye.
π₯ Live footage of us, the parents, when we found out we were losing our beloved babysitter and were gonna have to start scouring local Facebook groups and asking for new sitter recommendations again…
On our last date, we picked up a copy of Atomic Habits by James Clear as a little goodbye gift for our sitter (our go-to for grads and really anyone going through a life transition or establishing new rhythms)
It’s one of the best books we’ve ever read.
The hardcover is great for gifts, but we love the audio version too (so maybe throw that one in your cart for yourself π)
Got a go-to gift YOU love giving grads? Hit reply and share it with us because weβre always looking for fresh ideas!
4. Are We Getting Old? (Donβt Answer That) π
This week, we overheard a group of high school girls talking and one of them said to the others:
βThat guy is REALLY old. Heβs like… THIRTY FIVE.β πππ
To be fair, we did think Danny Tanner was ancient when he turned 30 on Full House… so we get it π
5. The broken mailbox that built more trust π¬
Last week, our landscaper accidentally knocked over our brand new mailbox (the oversized kind we love because it fits packages and keeps them dry!)
But get this… they emailed us before we even noticed, explained everything, and said theyβd send someone out to fix it the next day π€―
We werenβt mad!
We were impressed π
It made us trust them more β not less β because they owned the mistake and made it right.
And it reminded us:
As business owners, itβs not about being perfect. Itβs about how we respond when weβre not.
Mistakes are going to happen.
But if we can own them, apologize, and make it right?
Thatβs how we keep customers for life π
Letβs all be the kind of business owners who fix broken mailboxes π
Thanks for sharing life with us π«Άπ»
This week reminded us that growth rarely happens without some mess⦠but the beauty that comes out of it?
More than worth it.
We’re cheering you on in your photography, business and life this week (even if you DO think we’re ancient π)
Big hugs!
