In the past seven days, we had the pleasure of photographing not one, but TWO of our online course students! Last week, we got to take engagement photos for Andrea and Justin (we’re shooting their wedding in New York this fall!) and THIS week, we had the privilege of doing anniversary photos for Kyra and Austin, the beautiful couple you see below!
Kyra and Austin are from Wichita, Kansas — so we immediately had a few things in common. First, Jordan was born just a few hours south in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s where his mom’s family is from and where he spent the first few years of his life. For most of Jordan’s childhood, once in the summer and around Christmastime, the Demos family drove their minivan from Phoenix, through New Mexico, and ALL of West Texas, to Tulsa to visit his grandparents. When we met in high school, one of the first things Amy noticed about Jordan was that he liked to wear crimson red Oklahoma Sooners apparel (including a big, baggy, football jersey in his senior photos, poor photographer!) She also remembers how he used to talk about people from the midwest. “They’re some of the kindest, sweetest people on the planet.”
Kyra and Austin are no exception.
They’re high school sweethearts just like us — although they have us beat, because they started dating in their sophomore year, and Jordan didn’t wise up until our senior year! They work for the same company, too, just like we did before we became full-time photographers. That’s one of the things we love most about our job. Getting to work with people, like Kyra and Austin, and, once we’re together and on the session, having the chance to talk, learn more personal things about them and make connections that we share.
* For the record, Kyra is pronounced Keer-ah, like Keira. Not KIGH-ra. So Jordan wins that marital wager.
Kyra and Austin, we feel so truly honored that you flew all the way to Arizona to celebrate your anniversary with us. You looked absolutely beautiful! Also, thank you for living up to the Midwest’s name of being the kind of people who will give you the shirt off their back; because Austin literally gave Jordan the tie off his neck, because he liked it so much. He promises to wear it at an upcoming wedding so you can see that it’s being put to good use! When you look at these images, we hope, at a minimum, you see three things: all the good things you’ve been as a couple, everything you are as a team, and what you’re becoming as one.
