Every time Becks sees a lion in one of his books, his eyes get wide and then he ROARS. His favorite song is “Just Can’t Wait to Be King” (wouldn’t dare take a road trip without it!) and when he meets you for the first time, if he growls at you, you’re in.
So when we tossed around ideas for his first birthday party, we decided… it was already decided. King of the Jungle. Our little Wild One.
We almost didn’t plan a party. “He’s only turning one. He won’t know what’s going on. He’ll never even remember! Isn’t a first birthday party really for the parents anyway?” But the more we thought about it, the more we realized we wanted to do it. That is actually *IS* for him! It’s a way for us to show him, “Hey, you were so loved, we wanted to celebrate you, even when you wouldn’t remember a thing.” We hope he’ll be able to flip through piles of photos, and learn the history of his life, moments he was too young to remember, but one day will make up who he is.
So all this to say, I’ve spent way too long browsing Pinterest, trying to figure out ways to bring the jungle to the desert, and realizing I might never be able to make our hummus dip look like a lion’s face! But we’ll be celebrating one year of Becks with our family and a few friends this weekend, and I think it’s going to help the fact that we’re about to be parents to a one year old actually sink in.
