Just wait until you read number 10...

hey, we're amy & jordan!

We’re Having a Baby!

Earlier this week on social media, we finally got to share the biggest, most exciting news of our marriage:

We’re going to be PARENTS!!

When we first found out, it felt something like this:

We’re having a baby.

We’re having a baby!

WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!!

To say we’re overjoyed would be an understatement.

Our hearts are so full. We are so grateful that God is trusting us with this little life and we’re in awe every day of His plans and this process.

Seeing the second pink line appear did more than reveal a biological fact. It unlocked a spiritual truth that we’d always heard about from our own parents, and partially understood, but until that moment, could’ve never fully known: unexplainable unconditional love.

To everyone who reached out this week to offer congratulations, thank you so much. We’re undeserving of your overwhelming outpouring, and humbled by your encouraging words and supportive prayers. We know that every day is a gift, so for Amy’s health and the baby’s, too, we’d be honored if you’d continue to pray with us throughout this pregnancy.

That said, so much has happened since we found out that we’ve by dying to share with you… but just couldn’t until we finished the first trimester. Not to fear, though! We’ve been keeping a list! So, without further adieu, here are some highlights, lowlights and real-lights from the past few months.

— “Morning” sickness. That’s funny. We didn’t realize that “morning” actually meant “every hour you’re awake.” YIKES!! We have a whole new appreciation for mamas everywhere!

— Amy’s basically spent the entire summer in bed. She’s been dealing with intense nausea, lost ten pounds in her sixth week and survived on popsicles, saltines and a whole lotta prayer.

— On the bright side, we watched two entire seasons of Project Runway in one week.

— Things have improved over time and the food aversions have gotten less severe, but the cravings/aversion situation have really kept Jordan on his toes.

— I really think I want plain noodles. *Jordan sweetly prepares and serves Amy plain noodles* Oh no. I can’t even look at these noodles.

— It’s been so hard for Amy to figure out what she can stomach that the world kind of stops when she finally thinks of something she wants to eat.

PANCAKES!!

— We’ve switched natural deodorant companies three times. Because Amy can smell.

E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

— Thus, new house rules…

1. Jordan now showers immediately after getting home from the gym.

2. Jordan does not pass gas in the same room. Amy never found it amusing before she was pregnant. But she now treats it almost as seriously as the United Nations every time North Korea does a nuclear test.

PLAIN CHEERIOS!!

— When we told Amy’s mom, she screamed… and broke the sound barrier.

— When we told Jordan’s mom, she screamed… and lost a bet.

— When we told Amy’s 85-year-old grandpa, he was wearing a Make America Great Again hat. We told him we were trying… one little Demos at a time 🙂

POTATOES!!

— Just looking at some foods (namely anything green) activates Amy’s gag reflex. So, Jordan either a) eats dinner alone or b) builds a literal barricade around his plate so she can’t see what’s on it.

— Carbs. Carbs. Carbs!!

— We’re pretty sure Mr. Carson, our cat, already knows Amy’s pregnant, because he burrows into her belly whenever he can and purrs like we’ve never heard before. He’s going to be very disappointed when we don’t bring home a kitten.

— PREGGIE POPS!!

— Jordan’s cried more in the past 30 days than he did in his first 30 years. Including every time Amy shows him her “bump.” Which still kinda looks likes like she just had one too many burritos.

— Speaking of the bump, Jordan’s is still bigger than Amy’s. #dadbod

Jordan: You’ve never looked more beautiful.

— Amy: Thank you. Please don’t touch me.

— Regularly, Jordan reminds Amy that male Emperor Penguins carry the eggs for their mates and keep them warm for two months, and if he could, he would.

— Lesson: It’s never a good idea to tell your wife that you would carry the baby if you could… when you know full well you can’t and never could.

— MUFFINS!!

— Speaking of muffins, Jordan and the night shift employees at the grocery store on a first name basis.

— We WILL be finding out the gender. We don’t have names picked out yet, but we keep joking with our family and friends that it’s going to the highest bidder. So far, no offers.

— Amy successfully filmed our entire business course. With a plate of french fries hidden behind her laptop.

I feel you Amy! I was sick the moment I saw the 2 pink lines and continued to be sick for months. It did get better but the first trimeter I lived on baked potatoes and oyster crackers and sprite. I too also lost 10 lbs. It’s so tough right now and surreal but it will get better I promise. Jordan hang in there too pal you’re doing a great job!

I’m so excited for you both!! It’s such a journey. Pregnancy nose is def a real thing, morning sickness eventually goes away (I promise), and those food aversions will just keep changing! I ate oatmeal every single day of my life before I was pregnant and have barely touched it since 🙁 My daughter just turned 3! haha.

As a mom of four (ages 29, 27, 17 and 15) I can only give one piece of advice that will work in any sitautation. Love intensely, take a deep breath before commenting when your child tells you something you don’t want to hear, pray all the time, and teach them about God. This has worked for me and I hope it helps you.

GOSH! My pregnancy was so uneventful (perfect, don’t get me wrong, i just sorta bypassed the cravings, nausea, and pretty-much-everything)…but this post almost makes me feel like I missed out!! I’d congratulate ya’ guys…but everyone’s already done that! I want to congratulate the soon to be most-photographed baby in the world that just hit the jackpot by scoring what can quite possibly be THE MOST AWESOME PARENTS EVER!!

Congratulations!! You two are so adorable and I look forward to following along in your blog! Sorry about the ‘morning’ sickness – as I am sure you have had lots of advice — I am about to throw one in too……FLAT COKE!!! Honestly, I tried everything that people said to me and nothing worked. One night I was super thirsty and the only thing left was a coke that was left out. I drank it with a couple of ice cubes to cool it off…..it was definitely flat (not one bubble!). I never had ‘morning’ sickness after that! It was a miracle!! So there is another lil bit of advice!! My prayers are with you two.

Very sweet post! My Wife Melanie had very intense nausea as well and she was loosing more cookies than she could keep down. I say all that to say that if Amy’s is bad enough, check with yalls doctor about a nonprescription sleep aid called Unisom. We hated taking anything while she was pregnant, but at least she could eat food and burnish our baby. Thought I would share since yalls story sounded exactly like ours. 🙂 take care!

This is amazing, I laughed, I cried!! I am so so excited for you both! One of the first times I met you both was a shoot and share event in 2014 ????. Amy talked to us at the end for those of us who had babies/kids (which I did) and she teared up saying how much she appreciated us as parents and how hard we worked. She just was so sincere, I always knew you guys were going to be rock star parents at that moment. I am so excited to watch you along the way to parenthood one fry at a time ????.

You guys, I totally get it. This was me and my husband last summer. He was running a political campaign, and I was working from home in bed in my underwear every day because everything felt uncomfortable. Sorry TMI, but really not much is TMI when you have a baby. Sweet Amy, I wish I lived close by so I could help you get through this. I was not a just morning sickness girl either. I lived on cucumbers, green beans, and watermelon. Seriously a test of faith, but sometimes when I was alone, I would feel God telling me He was with me, even though it totally sucked. I absolutely will be praying for both of you because this is a wonderful, beautiful, and yet seriously intense season. So many opportunities for God to show us He actually means His promises. Being on the other side, I am crazy in love with my little boy, and I am in awe of how development in the womb brings this miracle, his personality, his merry laugh, and what makes his little lip pout. I am sure you have so much advice flooding in,so just know you are not alone, and we are praying here in Minnesota. ❤️

I am over the moon for you both!!! Amy I can honestly say I know EXACTLY how you feel! With my first pregnancy the smell of garlic, buffalo wings, men’s cologne (any perfume or scents for that matter) was gagging! I honestly prayed one night I would lose my sense of smell altogether! I was in so much much pain those first few weeks I thought I was having a tubular pregnancy, only to find out after a trip to the ER I had an ovarian cyst the size of baseball. I was constantly told from every mom I knew it would be a boy! Nope- it was a girl!!! My second pregnancy the all day sickness kicked in, I’d be lucky if it was only in the morning. I could not stand the site of meat or anything cooked in general. Andrew wasn’t even allowed to eat if I was in the house unless it was part of my 2 food groups… fresh fruit and carbs (preferably white bread, saltines or French fries (the only cooked product). Again with the pain and now bleeding… off to the ER we went assuming I was having a miscarriage only to find out it was an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit! Again everyone told me “it must be a boy”… even we believed it, what a shock to find out we would be having a girl!

The third- well that was the worst! With all my scent and food phobias I got stuck making thanksgiving dinner. I don’t know if it was the pain in abdomen or the smell of everything but I passed out while cooking. Off we go agin to the ER- this time I had two ovarian cysts one the size of a grapefruit and the other just slightly smaller. The doctors were unsure this time if they would go away on their own. So I spent the night in the ER while they monitored me. After feeling slightly better I was sent home to watch and wait. After another 6 weeks the pain subsided and we found out at 12 weeks we were having another girl!!! As the nurse put it “yup I see the the little hamburger patty”… to which I replied “so there is no way that could be a hot dog?” Ha! In the third trimester they discovered I had polyhydramnios… that was a blast ????
I know you have lite and lots of friends and family to support you both during this time. Just know you both will always be in my prayers, and if you ever need anything don’t hesitate to reach out!!!

Hugs and Kisses to all three of you!

  125. Wendy

    September 7th, 2017 at 8:44 pm

So so happy for you guys! I was laughing so hard reading this because 1. My husband had to change deodorants every time I was pregnant and 2. Late night trips for him to the grocery store for chocolate mud pie and tator tots were not uncommon and 3. I lived off plain Cheerios for every 2st trimester! The best of times, and the worst of times. Congrats!

  126. Christy

    September 7th, 2017 at 8:53 pm

Wow! Congratulations! This post made me laugh and smile. It brought back all those memories when I too couldn’t look, smell, or think of food. Ginger ale, blueberry muffins, cold bananas, applesauce and ginger snap cookies seemed to help for me! It may not seem like it now but it does go by quickly. Enjoy these last moments where it’s just the two of you!

Sweet Lord Jesus, all the potato I could fit in. And that craving-that-turns-into-aversion as soon as you see or smell said item is The Worst. Our cats (1 in particular) knew I was prego, she was extra cuddly – & they both brought me gifts
on the day I went into labour! I’m pretty sure the 1 thought I did bring home a kitten. The sibling jealousy started to kick in about a month or 6 weeks, I think. Now that he’s finally learning to pat gently they’re becoming besties!

No disaster here! Just the most influential people in my life who don’t even know my name are having a baby!

We just found out that I am expecting a few weeks ago, this is our first little one and I can’t even tell you how much this post made me smile!! I have been the same way!! Shocked that nausea is an all day occurrence. And realizing I now cry during animated movies such as “Sing” haha! How awesome that I get to read through your journey as we experience a journey of our own! <3 thank you for sharing! This really made my day, we are so very excited as well!! I am 11 weeks 🙂 I have the smallest baby bump and it makes me beam every moment I spend thinking about it. I have some heart complications and we didn't know if a family would be in our future. Oh my goodness, this was super hilarious to read – and very heartwarming! As a mother of 12 children myself (8 birthed and 4 blended through marriage), I can truly relate and am so overjoyed for both of you! The only thing I never experienced was morning sickness. May the Lord continue to bless both of you!

I love everything about this blog post! One, because I literally relate to everything about this, with the exception of morning sickness. I was lucky enough to not have to go through it with either of my children. But I am so sorry, Amy! I hope you are feeling much better! Enjoy the experience of pregnancy, it is one like no other. You too, Jordan, just because you are not carrying the child yourself doesn’t mean you have to miss out! I can’t wait for you guys to experience the first kick! 🙂 SO EXCITING! I just had my second 3 months ago, so i apologize for the long post. It’s all still very fresh on my mind. LOL

So beautiful! And I love how you just told your story with photos and captions. It’s very easy to get caught up in the day-to-day trials, but to look over the big picture and see what’s important, it really sticks with you. I was telling my husband last night when we found out we were pregnant 4 years ago, how we both agreed nothing else mattered. That little life (and those 2 pink lines) changed everything.
Congratulations! Very happy for you two / now three.

    Best,
    Addison

Hi! Congratulations! I was wondering if you guys ever take your own photos, when you’re both in them? For example, set up the camera with a tripod and take several bursts with 3 seconds in between or do you hire out?

Omg reading this was like going down memory lane for me..I too, a very petite girl, LOST weight and lived on the couch the whole first trimester and then some of my pregnancies. My sense of smell was so strong I could smell when the air conditioning turned on and it made me nauseous. I survived on gf blueberry muffins, mashed potatoes, and cheezits. You have my prayers Amy, pregnancy is ROUGH for some of us, and I’m so sorry it is for you! Hoping this pregnancy flies by and that you’ll be holding
that little guy in your arms soon!
