“Maybe God doesn’t want me to be married… I want to be married, but I’m going to be faithful to His plan for my life no matter what.”
She sat curled up on the love seat of our living room that evening, her back to the window, her eyes fixed on us. A warm glow of light illuminating her face from the lamp on the round end table, where her clear water glass dripped small beads of sweat down its sides, and a silver spoon rested in an empty white mug, flecks of Oreo and evidence of ice cream melted at the bottom.
There she sat. Knees bent back. Feet tucked under her legs. A kind, confident, beautiful woman with more joy and love to offer the world in one day than most people will in a lifetime. We talked and talked and talked some more. We talked for hours. We could’ve talked all night. About big things. Deep things. And little ones, too. We’d only known each other a little while, but we felt like we knew each other a whole lot, and the more we listened, the less we understood. The less it made sense why a million men hadn’t already tried to marry her, because she was everything a man could want in a wife… and more.
But that’s just it. She wasn’t ever looking for just any man. She’s been waiting for the right one. And just a few weeks after she wondered out loud on our couch whether God would ever answer her prayer for life’s perfect partner, God walked Perry into her life, and her into his. And we think it’d be more than fair to say that if they both had to do it all over again, they’d admit that it was more than worth the wait. Because some of God’s best promises are the ones that, like a fine wine, reveal themselves best not immediately, but in time.
Rachael and Perry, we couldn’t communicate in words how much we love you if we tried. We’re so infinitely proud of everything you are and so incredibly excited to see how many individual lives you impact now that God’s put two of His most powerful, warm and loving people on the same team. To say that photographing your wedding was a highlight of our season or a culminating moment in our career would be gross understatements both, because, in truth, your love is one of the singularly most beautiful things we’ve ever seen in our life, and we’re just thankful that we had the pleasure and privilege of documenting a small part of it.
Before we share some of our favorite highlights from the big day, we’d be remiss if we didn’t thank the family who opened up their home for this special occasion and the creative team who collaborated on just a few months notice to make this wedding planner’s dream wedding to the man of her dreams come to life.
