Sara emailed us one year ago. She was saving for a full-day coaching session at our home in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a few years into her business and looking for a boost. For some, the AJ Workshop is the perfect solution for that. For others, nothing beats that one-on-one time. Or, in this case, two-on-two time! Sara brought her husband and business partner, Brandon, with her from Montana so that they could experience it all together. She hadn’t been to the desert since she was little and he’d never been before, so it was the perfect excuse to brave the summer heat, spend a day with us and do an anniversary session all in the same trip! And, you guys, we loved. every. minute of it. We start all of our full-day coaching experience on with breakfast at our favorite place down the street. It’s a chance for all of us to connect over coffee — copious amounts — and fuel up for a big day ahead! Plus, the more we get to know people on a personal level, the better we can help, because we know who they are and what they want from their business, marriage, and life. So our Thursday started with a delicious meal and fabulous company! After breakfast, we headed back to our house, and the coaching began! We dove into every area of Sara & Brandon’s business that needed a little TLC and even put a multi-year plan in place for them to get from where they are to where they want to be. As former teachers, we like philosophies and principles, but we love practical — and watching their eyes light up and the weight come off their shoulders when we showed them a practical plan for how their goals can be achieved, well, that just feels good, friends, because making a real difference in real people’s lives never gets old. How could it? It’s what we’re all here for in the first place.
After our morning session, we went to Chipotle for lunch because… wait for it… the nearest Chipotle is TWO HOURS from their house in Montana. The nearest Chipotle is TWO HOURS from their house in Montana! Whaaat?! We couldn’t. We wouldn’t survive. Chipotle and coffee are our lifeblood. If they ever figured out a way to combine the two into a protein bar or smoothie shake, we’d only eat one meal a day. That! We’re happy to report, though, that Sara and Brandon love Chipotle as much as we do. Not that we’re surprised! What our Montanan guests also learned as soon as we got back from lunch, was this: Amy L-O-V-E-S dessert right after a meal. Like, immediately after. There’s no waiting. That’s criminal in her mind. Especially when you still have the salty taste in your mouth from lunch or dinner, why waste the opportunity to quench it with a cold, sweet scoop of ice cream?! Well, that’s exactly what we did! We made Sara and Brandon our signature homemade cookie butter ice cream cones. Their verdict: life-changing. Our answer: that’s what we’ve been telling people! Also, something REALLY fun that we did right before eating them (and continuing our discussion on branding): we took the first ever #DemosCookieButterIceCreamSandwich. Say that fast ten times!
By the end of the evening, we we all exhausted. Our brains had hit their capacity output and theirs had hit their intake. At that point, there was only one thing left to do. It was a California turned Arizona tradition. Something native to the Southwest and we’re still not sure why the rest of the country hasn’t caught on. But, when you have guests from out-of-town, it’s a must. It just is. The one, the only: In-N-Out Burger! And whenever you come with us to one of our favorite burger joints, you’re not getting out without a picture in hats. It completes the whole experience! But do you know what really made the whole day for us? The this-was-worth-everything moment. When Sara looked at us and said, “I’ve spent a lot of money on education over the past few years, and most of it disappointed. There was a part of me, on the way to Arizona, that wondered if this would just be more of the same. But today was different, life-changing and worth what I invested ten-fold.”
Wow. For two sets of tired eyes, our hearts couldn’t have been fuller in that instant, because it’s everything we want for the photographers and creatives we work with. Real change. Immediate impact. Something practical. Something different. Something that goes beyond business and, like she said, changes lives. That’s our heart. That’s our purpose. It always has been. It always will be. But to see so much hope in the eyes of two people we grew to love so much in such a short period of time, there are just few things in life that are better.

Sara and Brandon. You two. We almost don’t want to meet anyone else form Montana at this point, because they’re going to have a hard time measuring up to you! You get to know someone really well when you’re with them sun-up to sun-down without a break or breather, but we loved every minute of our time together with you two. Every single one. Your sweet smiles and sense of humor, your focus on the future and determination to succeed. It all resonated with us, which is what makes us so excited for what’s ahead for your business, marriage, and life. And know that through every twist and turn along the way, no matter that comes your way, that you’ve got two desert dwellers cheering you on. Every step of the way.
It’s a good thing we didn’t have to say goodbye on Thursday night, because we weren’t ready just yet! Thankfully, we had Friday afternoon scheduled to capture your two-year anniversary photos at a few of our favorite desert settings. We hope you love them as much as we do. Which might be hard, because we love them, and you, a whole lot!
