A little note from Jordan…
My favorite part of this Christmas season has been the addition of Carlos the Elf to our family and listening to Amy gasp in shock and then giggle like a little girl every day when she finds him doing something naughty somewhere she doesn’t expect.
My favorite part of our marriage is making her laugh. It always has been. It always will be.
And, as silly as it sounds, this little guy (and his shenanigans) has made her laugh harder than any time I can remember in our relationship. Laughter so hard you can’t even hear it. Because she’s too busy catching her breath.
You could look at this piece of plastic and fabric as something for kids or “just a stupid toy” but I see it differently: it’s a reminder to my wife that, almost seven years in to marriage, I’m still as committed to being intentional about her happiness as I ever was.
It’s not about chocolates and flowers, fellas, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot. She just wants to know that in a world with a lot distractions, plenty of temptations, and more than enough things competing for our attention, SHE is what we’re thinking about. She’s got our heart. There’s safety and security in that for her. There’s comfort in it. And I’m glad that every December from now on, I’ll have a little mischievous partner-in-crime dressed in red to help me remind the love of my life just how much I love her.
