She was standing behind the hostess podium when he walked in. Wearing high heels and a smile. He was a cute boy. With dimples, too. The kind who makes an impression. The kind a girl doesn’t forget. He caught her eye from the start, but she was too shy to say anything. Luckily, Dave is anything but shy. He’s a people person. He knows how to work a room. And, that night, his talent and charisma were on full display as he wooed restaurant guests with magic tricks that would make David Blaine take a second look. In the middle of his show, he approached Laura with an empty balloon. He held it up. To prove that there was nothing inside. Then, he asked her to pass him the salt and pepper shakers. She did. And the next thing she and everyone else knew, the glass containers were floating — floating — inside of the balloon. Everyone stopped eating and started gasping. In disbelief. The whispers started. How’d he do that? Then came the applause. He made such a strong impact in those few short minutes. She just couldn’t forget him. And she wouldn’t.
Over the next twelve months, she followed him online, watching him perform magic tricks, produce films, and travel around the world. She never interacted with him. He didn’t even know she was there. But she liked the dimple-faced magician from the restaurant. She did from the start. And, one day, for some reason, she finally decided to “like” one of his photos after months of silent observation. He noticed right away. He remembered her, too. The beautiful girl from the restaurant. Of course. He hadn’t forgotten her either, and that simple click of a button was all the incentive he needed to reach back out to her. So he did. And once they started talking, they just couldn’t stop. For days, even weeks, before their first date, they talked. And talked. And talked. They talked so much that when they met again in person for their first official date, it started with coffee but quickly turned in to an all-day event. From place to place, it was better than either of them could’ve ever imagined. Laura was so nervous she could barely eat. She didn’t, in fact, and her nerves were well-founded, because, deep down, she knew what he did, too. She wasn’t on a blind date with a stranger. She was sitting across from her future husband. And, one month later, he told her that he loved her.
Dave and Laura were made for each other. Like peas and carrots, or coffee and creamer. We could see it from the first moment we spent with them. It was palpable, tangible, and oh-so-real. We were so excited to explore the countryside for their engagement session on a 100-acre ranch in the hills of Tennessee, but after spending an afternoon with these two, we’re convinced that, for as beautiful as it was, the location didn’t make the couple. This couple made the location.
Dave and Laura, thank you for trusting us from beginning to end, for putting up with our crazy antics, and for running through fields of wildflowers with us to catch the last glitters of good light as we flailed our arms and shouted, “Let’s go! Follow us!” We’re counting down the days until your wedding this fall, but it just can’t seem to come soon enough! Until then, we’ll relish in these images — and we hope you will, too — because, seriously guys, your kind of love is worth relishing in.
(If you caught our blog last week, then you know that Dave is a wildly talented filmmaker and that he surprised us with a little behind-the-scenes video, which you can see here. Enjoy!)
If you liked Laura and Dave’s Nashville engagement, you might also like some of our other destination engagement sessions, like Aaron and Kathleen’s Ireland Castle engagement, or Haley and Tom’s New York City engagement session, and Nikki and Paul’s Florida beach session!
