It’s summer blockbuster season! Every Friday this summer, it seems like a new, huge blockbuster is hitting the theaters, so we thought we’d join in on the movie season fun! We don’t make it to the movie theater very often, but there’s nothing we love more than cuddling up on the couch at home with a big bowl of popcorn and watching our favorite movies together. So today, we thought we’d share ten of the ones that we could watch over and over again. The ones that never get old. The ones that we can’t resist when they’re on TV. The ones where knowing what’s coming only makes it better. So here it is! Our list of:
10 Movies We Could Watch Over & Over Again
1. Mean Girls
Tina Fey is one of the most talented comedic writers to walk the face of the earth, and this, without a doubt, is her greatest masterpiece. We just want to bake her a cake full of rainbows and smiles and rap at a winter talent show every time we watch it. Anyone who knows us knows we wear army pants and flip flops can’t make it through an entire day without quoting Mean Girls at least once. We’ve seen this one so many times that we can essentially repeat the entire script while it plays, and it still makes us laugh. We’re just waiting for the day we meet John Stamos on a plane and he tells us that we’re pretty.
2. Braveheart
Obviously, this one had to be on the list. We named our cat William Wallace for goodness sake! A story of passion, patriotism and sacrifice. What could be better?
3. The Sound of Music
We’re all influenced by the things our parents love, and Jordan and I quickly found out this was something we both had in common as children. Each of our moms couldn’t get enough of The Sound of Music, and the movie & music played in our home a lot over the years. This was a staple of both of our childhoods, and the best part is, the older we get, the more and more beauty we find in this story.
4. Titanic
Before you start cracking Celine Dion jokes, can we just say that every time this movie is on television, we stop whatever we’re doing and watch it! We know the ship is going to sink! We know Jack is going to die! But that doesn’t stop us from getting completely absorbed in this epic drama. It didn’t win ELEVEN Academy Awards for nothing! We love it and we don’t care who knows it.
5. Number Five Is Cancelled… Due to Lack of Proofreading
In our original post,  we left out #5 completely, something our friends from Pittsburgh pointed out immediately, affectionately, and, best of all, cleverly, by writing, “Number five is cancelled… due to lack of proofreading,” a brilliant play on this list’s #9 (see below).
6. The American President
This is Jordan’s all-time favorite movie. He loves history, government and politics, and this movie infused all of that with a compelling love story and a demonstration of what it truly means to stand up for what you believe in. Jordan used to watch it every night in college as he was falling asleep, so it’s safe to say he’s seen this one hundreds of times. Naturally, over the years, he’s roped Amy into watching it more times than she can count.
7. Up
This one is one of Amy’s favorites that she’s roped Jordan into watching more times than he can count! Up brings her to tears in fifteen minutes flat and it really has one of the sweetest love stories, animated or not! Combine that with a lovable boy scout named Russell and a flying house attached to thousand balloons, and we’re totally hooked. The spirit of adventure and love in this movie is inspiring, and we can’t get enough of it.
8. The Notebook
This is another tear-jerker that we can’t leave off the list. We’re romantics at heart, and this movie was made for us sappy romantics. The love Noah has for Allie in this film is that once-in-a-lifetime, raw, passionate, self-sacrificing, amazing love that we could watch over and over and over again.
9. Heavyweights
Ever heard of it? Please say yes. A group of overweight children head to summer camp, only to find out the camp they once knew and loved has been completely taken over by a power-hungry, clinically insane fitness guru named Tony Perkis. If you answered yes, you just scored about a thousand cool points in our book. This movie was the best thing that came from 1995. Ben Stiller was born to be Tony Perkis, and it has every essential element of a classic kids movie from the 90s. Our favorite line? Lunch is cancelled today… due to lack of hustle.
10. Hocus Pocus
And while we’re on this topic of the best movies to come out of the 90s, this one HAS to be on the list. We have probably watched Hocus Pocus every October since it came out in 1993. The Sanderson Sisters have us under their spell faster than you can say, “black flame candle,” and nothing gets us in the Halloween spirit more than Winifred singing, “I Put A Spell on You.”
So, that’s our list! What are the movies YOU love to watch over and over again?! We’d love to know! Happy Friday, friends! Make it a great one!

"I always look forward to your emails! I get excited every time I get an email notification that says 'Amy & Jordan!' Even though we've never formally met, you guys have pretty much become the photography mentor I've never had!"
"I LOVEEE the Monday Minute and I look forward to it every week!"
"The Monday Minute has seriously changed the way I look at my business! In the last year, my business has completely changed and evolved and I know that it's greatly due to my time 'spent' with the two of you!"
"Best year of my life! (Photography-wise!)"

Glad you let Jordan pick at least one of the movies.
HA! Mike! Come on, we know you’re a closet Sound of Music fan!
There may or may not be a video of me performing in the musical when I was 8
OH my gosh, at least 6 of those are on repeat at our house too! Loooooove Heavy Weights, so hilarious!
HAHA YESSS!! Love it More happy Maria!! 🙂
I overheard a couple of people talking about this on that long, hot trek from the parking lot to the CCV auditorium. Thought I would check this list out. If this was my list I would have to title it 7 movies I have never seen. Obviously the list will have a generational influence. Since I am old enough to be your… really cool, fun uncle, I have many more years of movie watching under my belt. My top choice is 1982’s Blade Runner.
Tim! I didn’t know you went to CCV!! Love it!! And who knows, maybe you’ll find a couple gems on this list that you’ll fall in love with! We’ve never seen Blade Runner, so we’ll have to add that one to our “to watch list” 🙂
CCV is a rather large place to say the least. I have had co workers and former students attend there and we never ever saw each other there. And I do appreciate you putting BR on your “to watch list” but based on your top 10 list, there is nothing to indicate that science fiction is anything that you are remotely interested in. lol
